I bought this to back up my whole Macbook. It was easy to setup and works great. I'd heard that the USB adapter that connects to the WD drive gets loose over time, but I haven't witnessed any such thing yet. Very satisfied with the purchase.

I bought this external hard drive 2 months ago and guess what, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't! My only purpose of buying this is to save all my photos. Yes, I was able to used it, but sometimes this hard drive works and sometimes my files just disappears from the folder and I'm tired of doing this every time I want to access my files!!! I've installed the software WD Smartware(updated software) and tried deleting all my files created on this drive by using "DRIVE ERASE" button and left it for 8hrs or more and it didn't even deleted my files. I'm using a macbook pro and I was able to backup my file(thru time machine) just once! after that I've always encounter an error, I can't even eject it! I have to remove the usb connection and put it back again! This hard drive is just to complicated for me and not a user friendly hard drive.

This HDD works perfectly well with my Mac! I am using this connected to my airport extreme, as network storage device and backup for my two computers (using Time Machine). No need for a Time Capsule. Installation is flawless and all you need to do is connect it to your airport extreme. I am not concerned about the preinstalled smart ware... I didn't have to use it at all. Time Machine can do the backup for you. Overall a great product. I've had this product for a month and no problems so far.
